Anthony Perkins

Anthony Perkins (New York, 1932 – Los Angeles, 1992) was an American actor, renowned for his versatile film career. He began his career in theater before achieving success in Hollywood, receiving an Academy Award nomination for *Friendly Persuasion* (1956).

However, the role that immortalized him was that of Norman Bates in Alfred Hitchcock's iconic *Psycho* (1960). His portrayal of the shy and disturbed motel manager became a cinematic archetype, forever defining his image.

This role marked him, leading him to often portray complex, nervous characters or those with a dark side, as in *Phaedra* (1962), Orson Welles's *The Trial* (1962), and *Goodbye Again* (1961). Perkins excelled at portraying a combination of vulnerability, sensitivity, and latent unease, making his subtle intensity a distinctive stylistic signature.
