Claudio Gora

**Claudio Gora (Genoa, 1913 – Rome, 1998)** was an Italian actor and director whose film career spanned almost five decades.

Distinguishing himself from the early works of Neorealism, Gora played authoritative figures, often professionals (lawyers, doctors), nobles, or characters with a distinguished, and sometimes severe or rigid, presence. His style was characterized by measured and credible acting, which lent depth even to supporting roles.

Among his most significant films are masterpieces such as *Rome, Open City* (1945) by Roberto Rossellini, *Umberto D.* (1952) by Vittorio De Sica, and successes of the Commedia all'italiana such as *Big Deal on Madonna Street* (1958) by Mario Monicelli, *La Dolce Vita* (1960) by Federico Fellini, and *Il Sorpasso* (1962) by Dino Risi.

Gora was a familiar and dependable presence in Italian cinema, an excellent character actor who significantly contributed to many of the films that shaped the history of national cinema.
