Gunnar Björnstrand

**Gunnar Björnstrand (1909-1986)** was a Swedish actor, an iconic figure in cinema, best known for his intense and prolific collaboration with director Ingmar Bergman.

With a subdued yet incisive acting style, Björnstrand excelled at portraying complex characters: often tormented intellectuals, cynical professionals, authoritarian figures, or men in deep existential crisis. His most memorable roles include the rationalist Jöns in *The Seventh Seal* (1957), Professor Borg in *Wild Strawberries* (1957), Pastor Tomas Ericsson in *Winter Light* (1963), and the elderly Isak Jacobi in *Fanny and Alexander* (1982).

Although an iconic face of Bergman's cinema, his extensive career also included diverse roles outside the master's filmography. His screen presence and ability to convey deep emotions with subtlety made him one of the most esteemed actors in Swedish and international cinema.
