Jacques Tati
Jacques Tati (born Jacques Tatischeff; 1907-1982) was a French actor, director, and screenwriter, renowned for his unique comedic style, based on pantomime and acute observation of modern life.
His most iconic character is Monsieur Hulot, a clumsy but good-natured man, often at odds with technology and social conventions, easily recognizable by his pipe, umbrella, and unmistakable gait.
His most notable films include *Mr. Hulot's Holiday* (1953), *Mon Oncle* (My Uncle, 1958) – winner of the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film – and the magnificent *Playtime* (1967). His cinema is characterized by an innovative use of sound and minimal dialogue, prioritizing visual gags and the choreography of crowds to subtly satirize the contemporary world. Tati is considered a master of visual comedy.
