Dino Risi
Dino Risi (1916-2008) was one of the undisputed masters of *commedia all'italiana*. His biting and satirical style combined an acute observation of post-war Italian society and the economic boom with profound irony and an often bitter sense of human existence. He skillfully captured the vices and neuroses of Italy in transformation.
Among his masterpieces are *Il Sorpasso* (1962), an emblematic portrait of an era featuring Vittorio Gassman, *Una vita difficile* (1961) with Alberto Sordi, *I mostri* (1963), and *In nome del popolo italiano* (1971), both caustic portrayals of the bourgeoisie. Subsequently, *Profumo di donna* (1974) earned him international recognition. Risi masterfully balanced laughter with bitterness, leaving an enduring legacy in cinematic social commentary.
