Jacques Tati

Jacques Tati (1907-1982) was an innovative French director, actor, and screenwriter. Known for his character Monsieur Hulot, he created a distinctive humor. His cinematic career is marked by a predominantly visual and aural comedy, with dialogues reduced to a minimum. Tati acutely observed modernity, technological progress, and contemporary society.

Among his masterpieces are *Mr. Hulot's Holiday* (1953), which introduces the iconic character, the Oscar-winning *Mon Oncle* (1958), and the ambitious *Playtime* (1967). Through Hulot's clumsy but good-natured figure, Tati offered a gentle yet profound critique of consumer society and urban alienation. His style, characterized by elaborate gags and meticulous visual choreography, makes him a unique figure in film history.
